The Oyo State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande, felicitated Nigerians on Democracy Day, particularly the people of Oyo State, as the nation celebrates 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.

In her Democracy Day message, the state director urged Nigerians to appreciate the founding fathers of the democratic system currently enjoyed across the country by uniting in protecting the nation’s democratic institutions.

She noted that democracy is not served a la carte but achieved through the perseverance, resilience, sacrifices, and patriotic spirit of many men and women who fought tirelessly for its entrenchment.

According to her, the best way to honor these heroes is by sustaining and strengthening democratic values and institutions. She stressed that democracy can only thrive when citizens actively contribute their quota meaningfully toward its growth and sustainability.

We must all join hands in building a responsible nation where the common good remains our collective watchword.

“This responsibility can not be left to the government alone; it is a shared duty of every citizen,” she said.

Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande further stated that democracy gains greater footing when citizens work harmoniously with the government through trust, commitment, resilience, and a firm resolve to build a virile and prosperous nation.

The Oyo State director maintained that insecurity poses a threat to democratic stability. She emphasized that maintaining a secure society requires the collective efforts of all citizens.

She charged the people of Oyo State not to lose hope in the ongoing war against banditry but to hold the belief that all the people in captivity will be rescued and return safely back home.

“It takes two to tango. Security is everyone’s responsibility. We must remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive. If you see something, say something. Citizens should support security agencies by providing useful information and shunning all forms of violence,” she advised.

As Nigerians commemorate Democracy Day, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande charged all citizens to uphold democratic principles, perform their civic responsibilities diligently, and continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening the nation’s democratic culture.

She therefore wished everyone a joyful Democracy Day and prayed for the attainment of the peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria that all citizens desire.
