The Oyo State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, has directed Waste Management Consultants and Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) to step up their operations in a bid to ensure effective waste management and strict compliance with the State’s environmental policies.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, gave the directive at a meeting with Waste Management Consultants, EHOs, and Community Development Council (CDC) Chairmen at the Ministry, noting that the stakeholders had been reminded of their responsibilities for the second time within a month.
Engr. Aderinto stressed that the government would no longer tolerate negligence, poor performance, or any action capable of undermining its efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment across the state.
He charged the Waste Management Consultants and EHOs to intensify monitoring, enforcement, and sensitisation activities, ensuring proper registration and evacuation of waste, and working closely with CDC Chairmen and residents to improve waste management at the grassroots.
The commissioner urged the stakeholders to take their responsibilities seriously, stressing that the government expects measurable results and greater commitment to their duties.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA), Hon. Adeniyi Akanbi, urged the Waste Management Consultants and EHOs not to be discouraged by the directive but to see it as a call to greater responsibility and an opportunity to improve their performance.
He called on them to work together, remain committed to their duties, and support the government’s efforts to achieve a cleaner and healthier Oyo State, noting that their contributions are vital to effective environmental management across the state.
