Ogun State House of Assembly has assured residents of over 70 Communities affected in the process of the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan light rail project by the CCECC along Laderin in Obafemi -Owode Local Government of its resolve to help channel their plight to the Federal Government through the National Assembly for immediate provision of access roads and water to the affected areas.
The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo, gave the assurance shortly after a member representing Abeokuta South State Constituency, Hon. Ademuyiwa Adeyemi laid a petition from the affected residents during the plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan.
He noted that though it was a Federal government project, but a very laudable one, but it was for the overall benefit of the people of the State, without sacrificing the people’s welfare.
The Speaker, who had earlier addressed the residents of the affected communities before the Assembly’s plenary, assured that holistic assessment of the petition would be carried out with possibility of engaging the contractors with a view to providing palliative measures for the affected communities.
According to Oluomo, the Federal government developmental project was aimed at improving the economy of the State and the nation and not to create an untold hardship on residents of the communities on whose land the rail track was being laid; the Assembly would convey the petition of the affected communities to the National Assembly.
Earlier in his presentation to the Speaker, the representative of the communities and Chairman of Abule Ake Community Development Association, Mr. Akintunde Farooq, stated that since the construction of the rail project commenced, the affected communities had been cut off with other part of the State capital, while their water source had been affected.
He appealed to the contractors to provide palliative measures towards improving their standard of living and help alleviate the plight of the residents of the communities.
