Mikel Cleared For Trabzonspor, Gaziantep Clash

Former Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi has received clean bill of health to play a part in his club’s, Trabzonspor of Turkey Super Lig home game at the Medical Park Stadium on Saturday.

The former Middlesbrough FC midfielder limped off from training on Monday over a suspected thigh injury, raising concerns over his availability for Saturday’s clash as Trabzonspor continue their push for the Turkish top flight crown.

But on Tuesday, the former Chelsea midfielder was a guest of the team’s medics where he passed through checks and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI test.

After the checks, Mikel was found with no serious injury worry and was subsequently given an all clear to be involved in the tie against Gaziantep FK.

Yasar Kibar Given, chairman of Trabzonspor Medical Department and Chief Surgeon said afterwards that the injury was not serious and that Mikel is fit to play against Gaziantep.

“Today, our player, (John Obi Mikel), as a result of examinations and MRI taken as a result of a 1 thigh front muscle is determined (free) to play”, Guven told the club’s website.

“The player will play the match on the day of Gaziantep FK, certainly he will”.

Trabzonspor are joint second in the standings with Sivasspor on12 points after seven rounds of matches.

Alayaspor are top on the table with 14 points.
