English Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea will reportedly have to break the African transfer record to sign Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.
According to the print edition of Italian newspaper la Repubblica, via gonfialarete, Napoli president De Laurentiis, who knows the value of Osimhen and will not let the striker leave the club on the cheap, has placed an asking price of €120 million on the former Lille star.
The transfer fee should not be an issue for the clubs linked with Osimhen, the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
If a deal were to happen for that fee, it would make the Nigerian the most expensive African player in history, surpassing Ivory Coast national teamer Nicolas Pépé, who joined Arsenal from Lille in exchange for €80 million in August 2019.
Chelsea have identified Osimhen as the ideal striker to replace the aging Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester United want him on a permanent basis to fill the void created by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
On the back of his impressive displays this season with 17 goals in 21 matches, Osimhen’s potential move to the Premier League or the Ligue 1 is set to be the story of the summer transfer window.
