...Governor Abiola Ajimobi...

Following the signing of the Oyo State Anti-Land Grabbing Bill into law, the Oyo State Estate, Rent and Commission Agencies have expressed their happiness while commending Oyo State government, under the leadership of Governor Abiola Ajimobi for taking the bull by the horn to confront the menace.

In a letter signed by the group’s Chairman, Pastor I.O. Ojo and made available to PMParrotng, he commended the governor for taking the bold step by signing the bill into law without delay because it will checkmate the activities of land grabbers who are on the increase in the state these days.

According to him, “to the glory of God, the bill has been passed during your tenure and your name has been written in ‘Gold’ in the history of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. The people of Oyo State that are going to be liberated by this action will never forget you.”

Pastor Ojo, therefore, promised on behalf of the agencies to ensure proper implementation and execution of the law for the benefit of the state and the entire people.

It will be recalled that the Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi not long ago signed maximum imprisonment of 15 years or a fine of 500,000 naira into law as punishment for forcible seizure of landed property or an attempt to do so, otherwise known as land grabbing.

The law also prescribes 10 years jail term or a fine of N500,000 upon conviction for illegal entry into any construction site “for the purpose of stopping, disturbing or otherwise” demanding for any fee or levy in respect of construction activities.

This is one of the provisions of the new Real Estate and Properties Protection Law, 2016.
