Wife of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs Feyisetan Fayose has blamed gender inequality and discrimination against women on culture and tradition.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti at a one-day workshop organized for female lecturers in Southwest Nigerian Universities, the wife of the governor advocated for a change in the gender imbalance; saying that God Himself realized that man alone could not carry out His plan hence the creation of the woman to complement him.

Mrs Fayose who was represented by the wife of the State Head of Service, Mrs Omotola Faseluka said the issue of discrimination against women has called the attention of the International community which had made efforts towards resolving the problem of the status of women. She added that Ekiti State has domesticated most of the instruments for women development and empowerment, including regulatory frameworks against female genital mutilation, equity of female representation in elective and appointive positions.

While speaking on Students mentorship for female lecturers, the governor’s wife stated that the essence of the female lecturers transmitting the understanding of the mentorship psychology to students is to have a society where social vices among children will be reduced to the barest minimum.

She charged women to provide emulative models to children as this is one of the ways to bring peace and development to the society.

Earlier, the Vice chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Oye Bandele had advised that the debate on gender imbalance should not be taken to the extreme as this had caused crisis in many families.

The vice chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice chancellor (Administration) Prof. Sola Oluwaleye stressed the importance of mentorship to the development of the society and urged mentors to be a model by guiding the younger generation with their experience.

He added that mentors must, however, be obedient to constituted authorities.
