The Oyo State House of Assembly has called on the Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led government to liaise with the Osun State Government to avert clashes between communities on the borders of their two States.

In a motion moved on Tuesday by Hon. Peter Oyetunji titled:”Urgent Need to Avert Communal Clash Between Communities on the Borders of Oyo and Osun States in Surulere and Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area”,the lawmaker urged the Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led government to set up a high-powered investigative panel to look into the crisis and proffer a permanent solution.

According to the legislator who represents Surulere/Ogo Oluwa state constituency:”Areas where the states share boundary, people from Osun side have been reported to be invading communities in the two councils and claiming ownership of properties therein.

“This untoward attitude of communities from Osun side of the border is disgusting, irritating and disturbing”.

Consequently, he called on the members of the Osun State House of Assembly to wade into the matter and appealed to the concerned communities in Osun State to toe the line of peace, advising them to seek a redress in court if there is any issue.

Contributing, the lawmaker representing Oyo East/Oyo West state constituency, Hon. Muideen Olagunju urged Oyo government to set a panel to interface with the Osun State House of Assembly, saying all boundary disputes could be amicably resolved.

On his part, Hon. Segun Ajanaku representing Ibadan South West Constituency II said the State Boundary Commission headed by the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Moses Adeyemo should urgently wade into the matter with a view to finding a lasting solution to the imbroglio.

While supporting the position of Hon. Ajanaku on the State Boundary Commission to urgently investigate the matter, the Speaker, Right Hon. Michael Adeyemo called on the House Committee on Special Duties to follow it up.
