Land owners and people with old certificate of occupancy (C of O) in Osun have been advised to key into the new system of processing land documentation.

This was contained in the resolution of the State Executive Council yesterday.

The Council gave the advice after receiving a progress report on the new system of processing land documentation, called the  Global Positioning System (GPS)-based land survey.

Council therefore enjoined land owners and those with old Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) to take advantage of this innovation.

A statement by the Media Adviser to Mr.  Sola Fasure, the Media Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola stated in part: “Residents, business owners and developers are reminded of existing laws that forbid land development without first obtaining proper documentation and building approval.

“They are therefore encouraged to do the needful before commencing work on their property, warning them that the relevant laws would be enforced.”

Meanwhile, government has also appealed to people of the state, who have degree in education, and can volunteer to teach the core subjects of English, Mathematics and the sciences to register with Osun Volunteer Teachers Corps under the auspices of Osun Education Quality Assurance and Morality Enforcement Agency.

Council said this becomes imperative in order to beef up the teaching manpower in the public schools in the state so as to complement government’s effort in providing quality basic education in the state.

Council noted that a report submitted to it revealed that part of the discipline challenge in schools being noted in schools is due to the lack of parental care and control.

Council discovered that “These are parents who for economic and other reasons live apart from their children, either in the cities or rural areas.

“These children, without mentors, role models and parental supervision, constitute a menace to their schools and immediate environment. Council is unhappy about this and urged parents to take responsibility over their children.

“Council restated the determination of the government to enforce relevant laws on the rights of the child and the responsibilities of parents to their children less than 18 years.”

Council equally thanked all those who came for the commissioning of Ilesa Government High School on Tuesday October 24, 2017 such as religious clerics, political leaders, traditional rulers, Ijesa indigenes at home and abroad, old students, parents, teachers and their pupils as well as those who contributed in one way or the other to the building of the school.
