Brightville, Yewa College Shine In Southwest Secondary Schools Medley Relay

The best of school’s athletics was witnessed inside the stadium complex of the University of Ibadan when best relay teams from South West Secondary schools converged and vied for honours in the maiden South/West Secondary Schools Medley Relay Meet held during the week in Ibadan.

Brightville College Ibadan that represented Oyo state came first in the male category while Aquinnass College Akure, from Ondo state emerged as the runners-up along with another Ondo State school, Oyemekun Grammar School that came third.

Yewa College Ilaro that represented Ogun State claimed the top spot in the female category while Brightville College girls finished as runners-up and Nawir Islam Grammar School Abeokuta beat Best Brain College Ibadan to the third place in the keenly contested relay race.

The event, which was held as a pilot study along with the sports fiesta and ten years anniversary of Brightville College according to the proprietor of the school, Dr. Friday Ogada who doubles as the Chairman of Oyo State Athletic Association and Secretary of South/West Athletic forum.

He described the medley relay as a pilot study to a bigger and more elaborate one that is in the pipeline and would soon be unveil by the South/West Athletic Forum to discover budding talents from secondary schools in the region.

The event was witnessed by cream of top sports personalities which included the commissioner for youth and sports Oyo State, Barrister Abayomi Oke, the zonal coordinator Fed Ministry of Youth and sports Southwest zone, Olufemi Ajao, ex-Green Eagles left winger, Dr. Felix Owolabi and Ex-Eagles’ Striker, Shola Akinwale who chaired the event.

Also in attendance was the General Manager Oyo State Sports Council Gboyega Makinde, and  the traditional head of Igbo General Assembly in Oyo State, High Chief Alloy Obi.
