Basorun Adekunle Oladeji, the chairman of Aare Latoosa Local Council Development Area where Bodija, Ibadan market is located has been speaking about the violence that erupted at the market on Thursday.

The Chairman, in a brief interview with Parrot Xtra informed that he had no reason yet to believe that politicians are involved in the brigandage carried out at the market in the early hours of Thursday.

His words “the problem was caused by some of the butchers who refused to move to move to the new site the government provided. They deliberately went to slaughter a cow and the security men on ground attempted to dislodge them.

“So far, I do not see any potitical motive behind the violence. But I can inform all our people at Aare Latoosa LCDA that government is in absolute control and there is no cause for alarm. My leader and Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has taken action. All will be well soon.”

As at the time of writing this story, a Press Conference was being held at the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism where stakeholders were supposed to come deliberate on the way forward.

In the meantime, the Oyo State Government has shut down Bodija market for security reasons.

The  Aare Laatosa Loca Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman, Mr. Adekunle Oladeji, said the closure is to prevent the loss of lives and property of the citizenry, stressing that It is also to guard against the escalation of the violence in the market to other parts of the state.

He urged the people to be law abiding, warning that anyone found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

It was reported that the Police Post inside the Bodija Market was partly razed by irate butchers and their supporters.
