Honourable Akeem Ademola Ige, a prominent politician and the minority leader in the Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) not to be tired of oiling its  cordial business relationship with its customers for better service delivery.

Hon. Ige made the appeal in his personal explanation during the House plenary on the need for IBEDC to build and sustain a conducive business relation with their customers in the State for better service delivery.

He disclosed that this appeal became imperative owing to the recent misunderstanding between the company and residents of Ilupeju, Ori Aje, Awokanbi, Idi-Ope, Koti Olomu, Kerewu, Papa Ayetoro zone I and II, Oke Suna and many others all in Ibadan South East Local Government and Ibadan South LCDA, Oyo State.

Hon. Ige informed the House that what led to the misunderstanding was as a result of the letter recently issued by the management of IBEDC and addressed to all the customers in the aforementioned areas informing them of the reason for billing on fixed consumption which the affected people outrightly rejected and protested against. They termed it ‘unjust action’ through conveyance of correspondence to the management of IBEDC, the Nigeria police, Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), EFCC, the media and Oyo State House of Assembly for protection of their right.

Hon. Ige further disclosed that though the IBEDC has restored electricity to the affected communities following his intervention in the imbroglio, there is still need to appeal to the people to remain calm and avoid break down of law and order and the company not to disconnect the electircity supply to any of the affected residents pending the meeting scheduled for Wednesday 25th July, 2018 at Mapo hall, Ibadan where all pending issues are expected to be address.
