Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr has hinted that he could call-up top prospect Adeleke Akinyemi to the national team in future after scouting the Ventspils striker in Thursday evening’s Europa League qualifier against Bordeaux.
Akinyemi’s sparking display in the Europa League has awakened the interest of several Nigerians in the second-tier competition and he didn’t disappoint against the French Ligue 1 opponents, having netted his seventh goal in the competition in the 65th minute.
The 19-year-old has found the net 12 times in his last seven games in all competitions for Ventspils, scoring in each of those matches apart from the 1-0 loss to Bordeaux last Thursday.
”Rohr was at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique, he was introduced to the supporters before the game and took the ceremonial kickoff, ” a top source said.
”He had a chat with the three Nigerian players Alfa, Akinyemi and Tosin before the start of the game. He was happy with their performance, especially Akinyemi.”
Within the next three weeks, Rohr is expected to announce his squad list for a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles.
