Senator Iyiola Omisore, the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari’s Government to fish out and prosecute those who killed a former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.
Ige was killed by unknown gunmen at his residence in Bodija Estate in Ibadan on December 23, 2001.
When Omisore was asked about who killed Ige by the anchor at the debate organised by Channels Television, he said the question had become a political strategy usually used against him every election year.
Omisore said, “Iyiola Omisore and other people went through serious court trial for two and a half years and were discharged and acquitted. We took the Oyo State Government to court and we were awarded N2bn damages; they appealed the judgment and the case is at the Court of Appeal now.
“I pray that the Federal Government will search for the killer of Bola Ige, Funso Williams, A.K. Dikibo and Marshal Harry. This question of who killed Bola Ige comes up every four years during the election and after the election, it will die down.”
He also criticised those advocating zoning, saying zoning would prevent the best person from ruling the state which he said needed a competent and experienced leader at this time.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, said he was not imposed on the party but worked so hard to win the primary.
He said the APC constitution did not prescribe zoning but said nominations could be made through direct primary, indirect primary and consensus. He said he polled the highest number of votes in the direct primary poll.
He said having spent 38 years in private sector and eight years in public service, he was in the best position to succeed Governor Rauf Aregbesola so that the people of the state would continue to enjoy the good policies of the present administration.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, who was asked if the people would consider him to be stable because of movements across some political parties, said his movement was prompted by his passion to serve the people.
He said as an engineer and an entrepreneur, he would bring his experience to bear in order to boost the economy of the state and make it a prosperous state.
The immediate past Secretary to the Osun State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, who is the candidate of the Action Democratic Party, said he did not start criticising the government of Governor Rauf Aregbesola after resigning from the cabinet.
He promised to bring more people into the tax net in order to generate more revenue and use agriculture as another means of empowering the people and generating more money for the state.
He promised to reverse the single uniform policy of the administration because of the public outcry against it.
Adeoti said he was not desperate to rule the state but moved out of the APC because of his determination to ensure that Osun West Senatorial District which had yet to produce a governor since 1999 had a shot at the seat.
Meanwhile, the candidate Of Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, shunned the debate.
Adeleke was one of the five contestants invited by Channels Television for the debate but he failed to show up.
Adeleke was also absent at the debate organised by the Yoruba Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation.
