Engineer Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State has been strongly admonished to lock down all markets in the state to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The Engineer turned politician was also praised for the steps taken so far in the campaign against the spread of the dreaded pandemic virus.

Dr. Adekemi Aikomo, a family physician made all these submissions  during her interview with Olayinka Agboola on Parrot Xtra Hour on Radio, a magazine program aired on Space 90.1FM.

She also advised families to encourage healthy living as this helps to build a healthy lifestyle in the home.

Dr. Adekemi who has been practicing for over 15 years said the family is the first unit of the society and therefore it must be healthy to make the society at large live in healthy condition.

According to her, balanced healthy diet is key because it builds the immune system in an individual. “If you don’t eat well and build your immune system, you’ll fall sick and chaos begins. Balanced healthy diet is what I advise”, she said.

The family doctor also made it known to the public that having adequate sleep also contributes to living a healthy lifestyle as lack of sleep makes the immune system weak.

“Every household must have a first aid box at home. The first aid box consists of basic things like cotton wool, mentholated spirit, paracetamol, plaster and others. Do not store anti-biotics in the first aid box. They are to be prescribed and not used or abused anyhow like we use it”, she explained.

Dr. Adekemi explained further that the family should include more of vegetables and fruits into their diet.

She, however, emphasised on Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) for babies within one to six months as this would build their immune system and make them grow better.
