Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has again sued for peace among an angry group of protesters attempting to burn down a popular Police Barrack located at Testing Ground, Idi-Ape, Ibadan, the capital city of the state.
While addressing the protesters along Iwo-Road, Governor Makinde appealed strongly for calm with a promise that government would look into their requests.
He assured the protesters that he would meet with the state Commissioner of Police, Joe Chuks Nwachukwu on the need to do the needful, stating that he does not want the blood of any individual to be sacrificed.
Governor Seyi Makinde also appealed to the protesters to lodge their grievances at the complaint register opened in Ibadan North East Local Government, Iwo-Road, Ibadan.
According to information gathered by PMParrot at the scene of the protest, the angry protesters who were battle ready engaged the police in retaliation of one of them being hit by a police vehicle.
The incident led to the burning of the ‘offending’ vehicle at Iwo-Road interchange and the two police men in it at Abayomi Area.
It took the intervention of the state Joint Security Task Force, Operation Burst to stop the angry protesters who were heading to the Testing Ground Police Barracks with the aim of burning down the police facility.
Both the protesters and the police were already set for an epochal ‘battle’ before the arrival of Governor Makinde.
The emergence of Governor further calmed the situation, as he walked down through the Testing Ground Police Barracks addressing the protesters not less than five times at various junctions to Iwo-Road interchange to ensure the maintenance of peace.
