As the gubernatorial election in Ekiti State draws nearer, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned politicians and electorates in the state not to engage in vote buying.

The commission also further affirmed its readiness to curb electoral malpractices through the use of Bimodal machine which is capable of checking multiple registrations and unqualified voters.

INEC National Commissioner, Barrister Festus Okoye made this known during his press briefing with media executives in Ado Ekiti on Friday.

Barrister Okoye further revealed that the commission is ready for the state governorship election, while soliciting for the co-operation of the media towards a hitch free and balanced reportage.

In addition, Okoye revealed that a total number of 734,746 eligible voters have collected their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) while affirming that the non-sensitive materials have been deployed to the 16 LGAs across the state.

He said, “The election will be staged in 177 registration areas while 988,923 registered voters will vote in the election. As at 27th May 2022, a total of 734,746 persons have collected their PVC.

“The commission will also deploy 22,244 polling units and slightly above 10,000 ADHOC staff to conduct the election”.

Reacting, the Ekiti State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela lauded the efforts of the commission while promising that the media will carry out its duties professionally.
