The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, has counseled candidates of the various political parties canvassing for votes from electorate, especially in the State to engage on issue based electioneering activities with a view to entrenching democracy in the nation.

He stated this shortly after congratulating the members of the ruling All Progressives Party in the State and at the federal levels for electing the flag bearers of their party at all levels at the primary election held last week.

The Speaker also commended his colleague-lawmakers for their selfless service to the people, saying that despite them not having access to constituency projects fund since their inauguration three years ago, they had all engaged in different self-funded projects for the benefit of their constituents alongside qualitative representation.

In another development, Speaker Oluomo has condemned the incessant cult clashes in Sagamu that had resulted in loss of lives and disruption of commercial activities in the affected areas and called on the security agencies to step up measures to checking the menace.

He gave the condemnation while responding to the submission of the Deputy Majority Leader and member representing Sagamu I State Constituency, Hon. Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye, who reported the rising spate of rival cult clashes under personal explanation during the plenary.

While commending the various security formations for their coordinating efforts at ensuring peace and tranquility in all parts of the State, the Speaker called for improved intelligence gathering by members of the public to aid the effective operations of the security personnel.

He urged politicians, community leaders and traditional rulers to desist from aiding and abetting cultists by securing bail or standing as sureties for anyone arrested by security operatives for cult-related offences, warning that such act often encouraged the perpetration of crimes and criminality in the society.
