As the nation inches towards another transitional election come February/March next year, a call has gone to the clergymen in the country to ceaselessly intercede for the country towards a peaceful and hitch-free elections.

This call was made by the Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Sen. Lekan Balogun Alli Okunmade II on Wednesday while playing host to the set-man of Rehoboth Cathedral, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun and his wife, Pastor Mrs. Adelakun during their courtesy call on the monarch.

During the visit, according to the statement made available to journalists by the Personal Assistant (Media) to the Olubadan, Oladele Ogunsola, Bishop Adelakun threw his weight behind the call for constitutional role for the traditional rulers in the country, stressing that the security challenges currently bedeviling the country makes the call highly imperative.

Olubadan, who expressed worries and concern over the security challenges being faced by the country said, “the country is on edge, unless we want to deceive ourselves and divine intervention is of utmost importance. I urge you to work in concert with your colleagues in the vineyard to help seek the face of God”.

Oba Balogun expressed delight at the visit and thanked the Clergyman for his love for him and Ibadanland, asking him to continue doing his best for the people. He remarked that the activities of Bishop Adelakun in the area of philantrophy are well known and acknowledged with a prayer that God would continue to prosper his Ministry.

On the role of the traditional rulers in the governance of the country, the Clergyman said “I’m in total support of the call for constitutional role for the traditional rulers. If there has been any doubt before, the current security challenges in the country has erased such doubt. Who else can claim to know any community better than the monarch of such community? The traditional rulers definitely deserve to be accorded constitutional role, if not for any other reason, it is necessary for security purpose”.

Bishop Adelakun, who said the visit was part of the fulfilment of the scriptures on the need to pray for the rulers so that the people would live in comfort noted that he had not visited Kabiyesi since his enthronement, but, he had been praying for him to reign peacefully in good and sound health and bring into fruition his good desires for Ibadanland.

Recalling his sojourn to Ibadanland some decades ago, the Clergyman disclosed that Ibadan had been very favourable to him as the place where his  Ministry had blossomed, with branches across the globe and where he had established his University, Dominion University.

He used the occasion to pray for the monarch, his family and Ibadanland and promised that he would be visiting constantly to check after his welfare and pray for him and the metropolis. He also told Oba Balogun that the Christian leaders are not folding arms on the situation of things in the country, assuring that they would continue to intercede and their prayers would be answered.
