The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 11 Command, Sikiru Kayode Akande, has applauded the good people of Oyo and Osun States, especially the electorates, for conducting themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner in the concluded 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections held on 25th February 2023.

Akande stated this at a special occasion organized to decorate Zonal Police Public Relation Officer, Ayeni Benjamin and OC Zonal X-Squad, Oyelumade Olusola, with the ranks of Chief Superintendents of Police.

The event which was held in Osogbo was attended by Police stakeholders, Royal Fathers, PCRC members, eminent personalities and members of the Force.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayeni Benjamin, the AIG congratulated the newly promoted officers on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, and charged them to keep the flag flying with good conduct and professionalism on the job.

The AIG also used the opportunity to appreciate the uncommon confidence and support of the electorates, who came out in their numbers to exercise their franchise.

“Like a football game, we are at the end of the first half, the second half is coming, let us do it well again.” Akande said.

He urged the people of the two States to sustain the tempo and in the same manner, conduct themselves orderly and peacefully in the forthcoming Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections, slated for 11th March, 2023.

According to him, “This will mark the end of second half after which we can now celebrate.”

Akande, who extended the goodwill to Mediamen, Police and other security agencies, noted that their efforts undoubtedly made the task of effectively policing the elections possible.

Speaking on the outcome of the concluded Presidential and National Assembly Elections, the AIG urged citizens of the two States to remain law-abiding and avoid acting in ways capable of truncating the peace and tranquility experienced during and beyond the period of the Elections.

He cautioned all and sundry, especially political parties, their candidates and supporters, to desist from making or using the social media to spread falsehood and incitive statements, which criminal elements could capitalize on to perpetrate acts capable of breaching public peace and order in the States.

Akande, who noted that the Command remains focused on the task of ensuring public security and safety of the good people of Oyo and Osun States, also warned that he would also not hesitate to deal decisively with any person or persons, especially subversive criminal elements, who may want to use the instrument of protest to breach public peace and cause havoc on human lives and property in the States.

The AIG, however, enjoined all citizens of the two States to remain law-abiding, be security conscious and quickly report suspects and any acts capable of breaching public peace to the nearest Police Station.
