Despite his superb goal run in the French Ligue 1 league, Nigeria international, Terem Moffi has ruled out the chase for the top scorers’ award, noting that he intends to help his team play European football next season.
The Nigerian striker had an exceptional season with Lorient before making a €30m transfer move to ODC Nice.
After firing blanks in his first three matches, opened his goal account for Nice in their 3-0 away win against AS Monaco in the Derby de la Côte d’Azur in February and has since swept away doubts and proved doubters wrong.
The 23-year-old former Liorent striker, who has been in impressive form this season has scored four goals in eight matches for Les Aiglons and registered 16 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
The Buckswood Football Academy star with 16 goals is the sixth leading top scorer in the French top-tier league, three goals short of Paris Saint Germain and France World Cup winner Kylian Mbappé and Lille’s Jonathan David, who have netted 19 league goals this season.
In an exclusive chat with our correspondent, the Super Eagles striker said he was not looking at taking a shot at the Golden Boot but is focused on helping his team win matches.
“Obviously every striker thinks about winning the Golden Boot, but at the moment, I am more focused on helping my team win games and we try to achieve European football next season,” Moffi told PUNCH Sports Extra.
“Our collective goal right now is we want to win games and reach the Europa Conference league finals and qualify for next year’s European Conference League or even the Europa League.”
The Eaglets are ninth on the French Ligue 1 table with 45 points and will be pushing for a Conference League qualification for next season.
The Nigerian forward has scored one goal in two Europa Conference League matches and will be aiming to increase his goal tally and help his team win when Les Aiglons travel to Switzerland to play Basel in the first leg quarter-finals of the Conference League on Thursday, April 13 at the St. Jakob Park.
The Les Aiglons dispatched Sheriff Tiraspol 4-1 aggregate in the round of 16 to book a quarter-final spot.
