It certainly cannot be out of place to congratulate Nigerians at home and abroad for witnessing the dawn of a new dispensation in the country.

The milestone, epochal development is worthy of being celebrated because it is coming a time the people of the country are in dire need of it.

Specifically, the outgone President Muhammdu Buhari must be praised for abiding by his promise to hand over to a democratically elected Nigerian to lead the country.

In addition, the new president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be congratulated too for fighting a tough and unusual battle that led him to where he is today. We also congratulate others who went to the polls and secured seats at the State Assemblies, gubernatorial levels, House of Representatives and the Senate.

It is equally imperative that the new President is earnestly made to understand the need for him to radically depart from the ‘usual’ and deliberately make incursions into the ‘unusual’ if he wants to quickly and methodically impact on the lives of Nigerians.

In the first place, a lot of information, some embarrassingly scandal-filled will start to fly around about his predecessor and what he stood for. He must be careful which one he needs to attend to.

Reason for this is not far-fetched – he will lose focus. As a matter of fact, some of the intel he will be fed with are going to be made up mainly of falsehood because the focus will be to get him distracted.

President Tinubu must move fast and steadily but he must maintain the focus. He must not, in his bid to speedily bring succor and assuage the sufferings of Nigerians embark on white-elephant projects that will be of little or no use to the people of the country. He must shy away from ‘business as usual’ and ‘job for the boys’ syndrome.

Getting his priorities right is imperative. Nigerians are mainly interested in a leadership that will curb corruption. And this endemic problem cuts across all strata of the society and has killed the move to effectively secure the country, has discouraged power generation, distribution and supply. It has also badly affected the health, education and other sectors.

While wishing the new President the very best, it is noteworthy to equally advise him to give human face to his policies.
