Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps, said it has sacked four of its personnel for running foul of the laws and rules guiding its operations.

It said several others have been sent to detention centres to ensure they conformed with the norms, standard and operational practice of the organisation.

State Commander, Akogun Adeleye, disclosed this at an interactive session organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), adding that the outfit had arrested over 7,000 suspected criminals across the state since inception.

Adeleye said over 1,500 of the suspects had been charged to court, adding that the Corps’ activities helped to reduce clashes between farmers and herders by over 95 percent in the last two years.

Adeleye, who doubles as the Special Adviser (Security Matters) to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, said the Corps’ operational strategy, and intelligence gathering at the grassroots were yielding results.

He said the birth of the Amotekun Corps made the state adjudged one of the most peaceful states in the country.

His words: “The support of sister security agencies coupled with our local intellect and unconventional methods had assisted us in arresting to date, well over 7,000 suspected criminals.

“We are all living witnesses to the fact that today, Ondo State ranks one of the safest states in this country. What we have right now in Ondo State is pockets of violence in border areas and in response to this, the government has directed the putting in place of offices and control points in Imoru, Ijagba axis to take care of kidnapping and violence around Ose Local Government Area while Jugbere is to take care of the Akure North. We have implemented some of them.”
