Oyo Speaker’s Wife, Olamidun Tasks Women On Rights’ Promotion

The wife of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Olamidun Ogundoyin has charged women in the state and Nigeria at large not to relent in their efforts to promote their rights.

Mrs. Ogundoyin gave the charge during the celebration of the maiden edition of International Women’s Day, organized by the women’s wing of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Oyo State Chapter.

The wife of the Speaker noted that it is pertinent for women to play their roles as an integral part of the society through promotion of social, political, economic, cultural and religious sectors.

Ogundoyin advised that women should not confine themselves or limit themselves as children-making machines; rather, they should be ready to complement their husbands’ efforts to make a better society.

In her keynote address, the Clerk of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Yetunde Awe, urged the women to be prudent in the present economic situation in the country.

While describing women as special species, Mrs. Awe charged them to at every point in time ready to support their husbands to stabilize their homes.

The Clerk maintained that the role of women is beyond child bearing alone, they should take care of their husbands too and make judicious use of limited resources and be prayerful to address the present situation.

Speaking on the topic “The Role of Women In Time Like This”, the first female Clerk of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ms Foluke Oyediran, implored women to be morally sound and be indispensable partners to their husbands.

While urging women to equip themselves with necessary skills so as to be gainfully employed, Oyediran appealed to the relevant authorities to provide opportunities and a conducive environment for women to develop themselves.

“Therefore, at a time like this, a woman should be caring and compassionate, friendly and accommodating, and hardworking so as to compliment her family.”

Deputy Clerk, Mrs. Muraina Adenike urged the lawmakers in the state especially the female to focus on bills and motions that will champion the course of the women and protect them against any forms of abuse.The National Women Leader of PASAN, who was represented by the Ogun State chapter Women Leader, Mrs. Omokorede Koleowo, urged women to be contented, prayerful and be supportive to their husbands to be victorious over the present predicament.

International Women’s Day is a global event to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

The event, which was attended by the wives of the lawmakers in the state and other important personalities across various fields, highlighted with health talk by the Chief Nursing Officer of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Margret Ige and cultural performance by a cultural troupe.
