On April 30th, 2024, delegates from the 29 member-associations of the United States Government Exchange Alumni Association (Lagos Branch) convened to elect new leaders for a two-year term.
Overseen by a 3-man Electoral Committee led by Barrister Lambert Nor, the election was held at the American Corner in Ikeja, Lagos, with representatives from the US Consulate General in attendance as witnesses. Notably, the process unfolded peacefully and without any discord.
Elected to run the affairs of the association are the following persons:
President: Akeem O. Aponmade, Esq.
Vice President (Operations): Dr. Samuel Okerinde
Vice President (Project): Ganiu Olamilekan Lawal
Vice President (Finance): Winniefred Uwujele
General Secretary: Abiola Akinyemi
Assistant General Secretary: Oluwatobi Emmanuel Odo
Financial Secretary: Dr.Azizat Shola Gbadegesin
Publicity Secretary: Mobolaji Jaji
Treasurer: Ojuse Omotayo
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the new Executive Committee, Mr. Aponmade expressed gratitude to the Electoral Committee for ensuring a peaceful election. He also thanked the US Mission in Nigeria for providing opportunities through exchange programmes.
He acknowledged the efforts of past leaders in laying a strong foundation for the association and pledged to build on it.
Mr. Aponmade sought the support, input, and commitment of all members, promising that the new leadership would undertake projects that would enhance the association’s profile and ensure members’ satisfaction.
