Barring last-minute change, the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold on September 12 in Abuja.
The NEC meeting is coming up a year after the last one that grew up Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru as the National Chairman and National Secretary respectively following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore.
It was gathered from a credible source from the National Working Committee (NWC) on Wednesday that the party’s administrative organ, which is saddled with the responsibility of fixing date for the meeting, had settled for September 12.
This decision was informed by the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the strength of a request proposal by the NWC, seeking for a date that will be convenient to the President.
According to our source: “The NWC has agreed to the holding the meeting on the 12th of September, 2024 here in Abuja. This is made possible following the approval of a request to Mr. President for a convent date by him.
“Last week National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje received a letter from the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila intimating the party of the approval of the earlier request sent to the President who is the National Leader of the party.”
Our source, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the September 12 date to our correspondent further said: “Contrary to speculations in the social media on the intent of the NEC meeting, it was the party that wrote to the President to give an approval and date which Mr. President graciously approved and also suggested options of date in September, and that’s why Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led NWC settled for September.”
The letter from the Presidency dated 9th of August, 2024 titled, “Recommendation for the conduct of APC National Executive Committee Meeting and Midterm National Convention (Non elective)” reads: “Your Excellency, your previous correspondence on the above subject refers.
“I am directed by the President to inform that he has granted approval for the scheduling and convening of a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. The president has confirmed his availability for the NEC meeting between the date of 8 September 2024 and 19th September 2024.
“Furthermore, the President has directed that the agenda for the NEC meeting include, amongst other things, the consideration of a date for the non- elective National Convention to be held before the end of the year 2024.
“Kindly liaise with the undersigned regarding any development or necessary clarifications related to the scheduling of the meeting. Please ensure that any changes or updates are communicated promptly to facilitate smooth coordination.”
