Eko Book Club, an initiative of Read Across Nigeria (RAN), a registered organization under the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with Registration Number 7496657, has congratulated Jahman Anikulapo, Programme Chairman of the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) and the organizer of the esteemed Lagos Book and Art Festival (LABAF), on his remarkable achievement of winning the UNESCO Defender of Cultural Rights Award 2024.
This congratulatory message was delivered in a press statement issued by the Club’s founder, Wole Adedoyin, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The International Centre for the Promotion of Human Rights (CIPDH), operating under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), recently recognized Jahman Anikulapo for his outstanding contributions to cultural preservation and advocacy. A prolific cultural archivist and the founder of Culture Caucus Advocate (CCA), Anikulapo was honored with the prestigious UNESCO Defender of Cultural Rights Award 2024.
The award ceremony took place on December 13, 2024, in the Montevideo Hall of the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. During this notable event, CIPDH acknowledged Anikulapo alongside other luminaries from the fields of culture, politics, and the defense of fundamental human rights.
Eko Book Club praised Jahman Anikulapo for his tireless dedication to the advancement of culture and the arts, particularly through his leadership of LABAF, a festival that has successfully championed literary and artistic expression for over 26 years.
“Jahman Anikulapo’s contributions to cultural advocacy have placed Nigeria’s rich heritage on the global stage. This well-deserved recognition by UNESCO is a testimony to his unwavering commitment and visionary efforts,” said Wole Adedoyin.
The Club emphasized the significance of this achievement as a beacon of inspiration for cultural practitioners and advocates, urging more support for initiatives that preserve and celebrate Nigeria’s vibrant cultural landscape.
The Club also called on government bodies, private organizations, and individuals to recognize and support cultural leaders like Jahman Anikulapo, who dedicate their lives to fostering understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.
Eko Book Club finally wished Jahman Anikulapo continued success in his journey to inspire, educate, and advocate for cultural rights globally.
