Prominent man of God and senior Pastor at Molete Baptist Church, Ibadan, Oyo State, Reverend (Dr) Edward Kehinde Alabi has submitted that he has never seen or heard of any Nigerian state governor that faithfully pays the ‘tithe’.
The cleric made this submission while making special appearances on both Fresh 105.9fm and Splash 105.5fm radio stations on Monday morning as part of the celebration of Easter.
“Yes”, continued the man who once served as the Chairman of Oyo State Christian Pilgrims’ Board, “these governors may have their peculiar ways of serving God, but I am yet to see one that faithfully pays his tithe.
“By tithe, I am talking about the mandatory 10 per cent of their earnings. Do you know what it will mean if a governor decides to pay his tithe to a church? It will be felt seriously.”
When asked if born again Christians should hold political offices, Rev Alabi responded, “Yes, there is nothing wrong in that. But then, they do not usually attend the church when they get to political offices. And when they do, they will be pressing their phones. They come with entourage and security men.
“I believe they don’t like attending churches because of folks who will be asking them for one favour or the other. In addition, it is possible that they are afraid of being told the truth by clerics”.
When speaking about the issue of being born again, Dr Alabi said “Being born-again is a personal thing, it is a personal experience. Nobody was born a Christian at birth. That your Dad was a Christian would not mean that you would become a Christian when you grow up. You will have to make that personal decision”.
Alabi then used the opportunity to task Nigerians generally on the need to embrace love, fairness and fear of God.
