The Development Agenda For Western Nigeria (DAWN) in collaboration with Odua Investment Company is organising a special Yoruba Historical Conversation to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the iconic Cocoa House Building, West Africa’s first skyscraper.
The event which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 14 by 10:00am at Carlton Gate Xclusive Hotel, Secretariat Road, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state will attract dignitaries, captains of industry, political office holders and all the Governors in the Southwest states.
In a statement released by the Director-General of the DAWN Commission, Dr Seye Oyeleye, stated that the theme of the event “Transforming Today’s Resources into Tomorrow Legacy: Cocoa House as Beacon of Audacity” will be delivered by Prof. Adetunji Ogunyemi, a foremost Economic Historian from the Department of History, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The DG further stated that the lecture will provide valuable insights into the history of Cocoa House and its significance which serves as a symbol of Yoruba entrepreneurial spirit and economic transformation.
He added that the thought provoking lecture will explore how visionary leadership and strategic management will create lasting impact for the future and provide insights into turning present day opportunities into enduring legacies.
Cocoa House, located in Ibadan, Nigeria is West Africa’s first skyscraper completed in 1965 and commissioned by the Western Region Government to symbolize the region’s economic prosperity and lasting symbol of agricultural wealth.
