The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics has written the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, giving him a further extension of strike ultimatum.

The union had earlier given a 21-day ultimatum which expired on September 17, 2025.

With their expectations not met, the union expressed disappointment and further issued another ultimatum in a bid to avert industrial crisis.

Speaking in the letter, the president of SSANIP, Nura Gaya said the union has decided to give the government more time to act.

“We refer to our 21-day ultimatum issued on 27th August 2025, which expired on 17th September 2025, without any concrete response from Government to the critical issues raised by our Union.

“In line with the provisions of extant labour laws, and as a demonstration of our commitment to industrial peace, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics hereby issues a further 14-day ultimatum effective from the date of this letter.

“Our unresolved demands, as earlier communicated, are as follows: Release of the New Schemes and Conditions of Service for the Polytechnic Sector; Constitution of the Renegotiation Committee for the 2010 Agreement; Release of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 NEEDS Assessment Funds; Payment of Arrears.

“This additional period further avails the government the opportunity to positively and conclusively address the issues raised as our members have over the period showed remarkable understanding even to their detriment.

“We once again urge the government to act responsibly to avert this avoidable disruption of the polytechnic sector.”

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, said the ministry was working assiduously to ensure that all demands were met.
