Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State has described having Biodun Oyebanji as his successor as his greatest achievement, saying the governor’s performance in the last three years has vindicated the All Progressives Congress and the people of Ekiti State who supported his emergence.

Speaking over the weekend at Ijelu-Ekiti during the inauguration of the newly constructed Itapa–Ijelu–Omu Road, one of the projects marking Oyebanji’s third anniversary in office, Fayemi said the governor’s leadership had brought stability, development, and continuity to governance in Ekiti.

“Absolutely, he is my greatest achievement,” Fayemi declared. “I have my own imperfections, but those imperfections he has managed to either correct or reduce.

God has been kind to us in Ekiti by giving us a governor who can focus on the transformation agenda for the people and who is not given to unnecessary politicking at the expense of development.”

The former governor praised Oyebanji for prioritising infrastructure development, especially road construction and rehabilitation, which, according to him, had improved connectivity, boosted commerce, and eased transportation across the state.

Fayemi said Oyebanji’s success in office had validated the decision of the APC and the people of Ekiti to adopt him as the consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election.

“The success of Oyebanji’s administration is a validation of his belief in purposeful leadership,” he said. “The governor’s record of performance in three years has justified the decision of the APC and Ekiti people to present him as the consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election.”

Fayemi, who governed Ekiti between 2018 and 2022, said he was proud of his successor for “not disappointing” the people and for “holding firm to the truth and the task of leaving Ekiti better than we left it.”

He also lauded Oyebanji’s approach to governance, which he said reflected the continuity agenda that successive APC administrations had championed in the state.

Earlier in his remarks, Governor Oyebanji expressed appreciation to his predecessor for laying the solid foundation his administration was building upon, saying his government’s progress was a product of collective efforts by successive administrations.

“What is happening today speaks to what a people and a state will benefit if there is continuity in government,” Oyebanji said, thanking Fayemi for “breaking the jinx of continuity in Ekiti.”

He added that all road projects initiated by the Fayemi administration but left unfinished had been completed under his government.
