The Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has successfully concluded its training and induction programme for newly recruited teachers in TESCOM Zones 1 and 2.
The programme, held at the Yejide Girls Grammar School Hall, witnessed the induction of a total of 1,760 new teachers across the two zones. The first edition for same group was held at International Conference Centre University of Ibadan about two months ago.
The concluding event of January 13 was attended by three TESCOM Board Members – Mr. Ogungbaro, Mrs. Ajibola, and Mrs. Ariyo as well as the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics (DPRS) and other senior colleagues. Four key papers were presented during the programme to refresh and properly orient the newly inducted teachers. These sessions were well anchored by Dr. Olaoluwa and Mr. Adeaga, providing participants with valuable insights into the teaching profession.
In his presentation, the Director (Personnel), Mr. Popoola, charged the new teachers to be punctual, orderly, and to serve as good mentors to their students. He further advised those employed with B.Sc. or HND qualifications to obtain a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) to become fully professional teachers, noting that failure to do so could limit their career progression. He emphasized the importance of conducting themselves with dignity at all times.
In her address, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Faniyi, urged the new teachers to be proactive, forthright, and disciplined in the discharge of their duties. She shared her personal career journey, stating that she was employed as a classroom teacher on Grade Level 8 and, by the grace of God, rose to become a Permanent Secretary/Tutor General. She concluded by warmly welcoming the new teachers into the noble profession.
