Turkish pundit Mustafa Denizli has highlighted the influence of Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, on both Galatasaray and the Turkish Super Lig.
The former Lille star player is currently undergoing rehabilitation after surgery on an injury sustained during the first half of Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League encounter with Liverpool at Anfield last month.
In his absence, Galatasaray have struggled for consistency, failing to win two of their last three matches and collecting just four points from a possible nine.
Despite remaining at the summit, their cushion has been reduced, with Fenerbahce now just two points behind and Trabzonspor still within striking distance.
With five games to go, the pressure is mounting on the defending champions.
Denizli pointed out that Osimhen’s importance extends beyond his own performances, describing him as a player who brings out the best in his team-mates.
In quotes relayed by Haber Sari Kirmizi, he said, “Osimhen is a key player not just for Galatasaray but for the entire league. We can’t attribute his impact solely to his individual performance.
“Osimhen’s absence is a factor that negatively affects those playing around him, to his right, left, and behind him.”
Galatasaray’s medical team is doing everything possible to ensure Osimhen returns to fitness ahead of the potentially title-deciding clash against Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce on April 26, 2026.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk has reacted to the team’s recent performances in the absence of Osimhen.
The Lions were held to a 1-1 draw by Kocaelispor at the RAMS Park Stadium in Istanbul on Sunday, April 12.
The hosts took the lead in the 30th minute through Leroy Sane, who headed home a well-timed cross from Ismail Jakob.
Kocaelispor equalised in the 72nd minute, with Croatian striker Bruno Petkovic finishing off a loose ball inside the penalty area, per Hispanotoila.
Following the result, Galatasaray remain top of the table, just two points ahead of closest rivals Fenerbahçe, who secured a 4-0 win over Kayseri, per One Football.
Buruk noted that the team has struggled to find rhythm without the Nigerian international, describing him as a key figure in the squad.
He said, “Osimhen’s absence is difficult for us. The game with Osimhen is always important and valuable for us.
