The Honourable member representing Ibadan South East Constituency II, Hon. Olayinka Omikunle, has congratulated the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, following the qualification of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) for continental football.
The Oluyole Warriors secured a third-place finish in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after Enugu Rangers defeated Ikorodu City on the final day of the season, thereby confirming Shooting Stars’ return to continental football.
In his congratulatory message, Hon. Omikunle, who is the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for the 2027 Oyo State House of Assembly election, expressed joy over the achievement, describing it as a reward for Governor Makinde’s continuous investment in sports development and youth empowerment in Oyo State.
“I am delighted to witness Governor Seyi Makinde’s investment in sports yielding positive results. Shooting Stars, our traditional football club in Oyo State, has been absent from African continental football since 1999. Today, we have achieved the dream of returning to Africa’s prestigious club competition after 27 years.
“This success is a testament to Governor Makinde’s vision, passion, and commitment to youth and sports development,” he said.
Hon. Omikunle also congratulated the Chairman of the club, Hon. Taiwo Lekan-Salami, Head Coach Nurudeen Aweroro, the coaching crew, players, and loyal supporters of the team for securing the continental ticket.
He further urged the players and technical crew to remain focused and work harder ahead of next season, expressing confidence that Shooting Stars would make Oyo State proud at the continental level and continue to electrify the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.
He wished the team greater success in the coming season.
