Ekiti State Governor and Governor-elect, Biodun Oyebanji, has reached out to the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Wole Oluyede, and the African Democratic Congress, Dare Bejide.
Speaking to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Sunday following his victory in the governorship election, Oyebanji said he would meet his opponents later that day as part of efforts to foster unity and inclusive governance.
The governor said the election had come and gone and that it was time for all political actors to work together in the interests of the state and the betterment of its people.
Oyebanji noted that governance is a collective responsibility requiring the support and contributions of all stakeholders, irrespective of political affiliation.
He described his re-election as a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressing optimism that the All Progressives Congress would replicate the feat in the 2027 general elections.
He said, “This victory is a vote of confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu. It shows that our people appreciate the reforms and leadership being provided at the national level.
“I am confident that the APC will record another resounding victory in the 2027 general elections and that President Tinubu will emerge victorious.”
The governor attributed his victory to several factors, including his administration’s performance, the support of the people, the backing of former governors in the state, and his wide acceptability across political divides.
He said the implementation of people-oriented programmes and policies had improved residents’ lives and earned his government the trust and confidence of the electorate.
Oyebanji commended the people of Ekiti for renewing his mandate and assured them that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him.
“I am deeply grateful to the people of Ekiti for this overwhelming support. They have renewed our mandate, and I assure them that we will not take their trust for granted. We will continue to work tirelessly for the development of our state and the welfare of our people,” he said.
The governor pledged to sustain the tempo of developmental and progressive governance and to consolidate the achievements recorded during his first term.
He also lauded the voters for their peaceful conduct before, during and after the election, describing the exercise as a reflection of the state’s democratic maturity.
Oyebanji further commended security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their professionalism and commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible and transparent electoral process.
