Popular health advocate and medical practitioner Dr. Ademola Tosin Ojo,  has called for increased awareness, early detection, and regular medical check-ups as important measures in reducing the burden of breast cancer in society.

Dr. Ojo, popularly known as DATO, made the call during this week’s health talk programme on African Portal Radio/TV, hosted by Dare Olusan.

Speaking on breast cancer awareness, the medical practitioner stressed the importance of recognising the early warning signs of the disease and seeking medical attention promptly whenever unusual changes are noticed.

He highlighted key areas of concern for members of the public, including understanding the early symptoms of breast cancer, knowing when to consult a medical professional, and embracing recommended screening procedures.

Dr. Ojo also emphasised the need for women to understand the importance of regular breast examinations and appropriate screening, including mammograms when medically recommended.

According to him, early detection remains one of the most important factors in improving treatment outcomes, as breast cancer detected at an early stage may offer patients more treatment options and better chances of recovery.

The health advocate further cautioned against the common belief that breast cancer affects only women, noting that men can also develop the disease.

He particularly urged men, especially those above the age of 50, to pay attention to unusual changes in their breasts and seek professional medical advice whenever necessary.

Dr. Ojo explained that public health education remains critical in encouraging people to take responsibility for their well-being and avoid delaying medical consultations.

He maintained that the purpose of the weekly health talk programme is to promote health consciousness among members of the public and encourage people to prioritise their health.

He urged Nigerians to embrace regular medical check-ups and seek professional medical attention at the appropriate time, stressing that prevention, awareness, and early detection remain vital in the fight against many health challenges.

The weekly health programme on African Portal Radio/TV continues to provide a platform for health education and discussions aimed at improving public awareness and promoting healthier communities.
