Ekiti Knowledge Zone Project: Oyebanji’s Govt Signs Contract For Implementation Of Resettlement Action Plan

In a significant step towards the development of Ekiti Knowledge Zone, the Biodun Oyebanji-led government in Ekiti State has officially signed a contract agreement with Green Engagement Limited for the implementation of the project’s Resettlement Action Plan (RAP).

Speaking at the ceremony in Ado-Ekiti , the Director General of the Ekiti State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (EKDIPA) and Project Coordinator for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone, Ms. Lolade Olutola, stated that the signing of the contract agreement of what is the  first knowledge zone in the country, is a significant milestone in the quest to make Ekiti a hub for knowledge and innovation in Nigeria.

She explained that the process for implementing the RAP began last year, with the consultancy position advertised publicly in line with global best practices.

“20 consultants bided for this crucial project and following a rigorous evaluation process, we’re thrilled to officially begin,” Ms. Olutola said.

The Project Coordinator praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to the advancement of the State, highlighting that the Ekiti Knowledge Zone is central to the Governor’s vision of transforming the State into a world-class centre for learning and innovation.

“This is Nigeria’s first knowledge zone, a pioneering initiative that will undoubtedly position Ekiti as a formidable player in the knowledge economy,” she noted.

Ms. Olutola encouraged Green Engagement Limited to prioritize effective engagement with affected communities to ensure a smooth RAP implementation with minimal grievances.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akin Oyebode, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Oluwadare Jolumo, expressed optimism about the project’s impact, saying “with this contract signed, we’re looking forward to witnessing Ekiti’s transformation. I thank Governor Oyebanji for his visionary leadership in taking our state to new heights”.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Dele Ogunsemoyin called on all stakeholders to work in synergy to bring the Ekiti Knowledge Zone to life.

“This project requires dedication from every member of the team to achieve the ambitious goals set out,” she emphasized.

The State Commissioner for  Innovation, Science and Digital Economy, Mr. Seun Fakuade, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ayodele Adeyanju, pledged full support of his Ministry in  ensuring the project’s success.

“This project will place Ekiti on the national map as a leader in knowledge-driven growth. We are creating an environment where innovation can flourish and where future generations can dream and build right here at home,” he stated.

In his reaction, the CEO/Managing Consultant, Green Engagement Limited, Dr. Oliver Nwuju, expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to his organization to contribute to the landmark project, adding that the Company would strive to minimize grievances and fast-track the project’s progress.

“We’re honored to take on this responsibility. Our priority is to ensure fair treatment and timely compensation for affected communities with a commitment to transparency and open communication throughout the process,” he assured.

The Ekiti Knowledge Zone is expected to establish Ekiti State as a national model in knowledge-based development, promoting sustainable economic growth and attracting investment to the region.
