The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has warned the personnel of the service against any act of indiscipline that undermines democratic order.

Aneke issued the warning yesterday at a meeting with Branch Chiefs, Air Officers Commanding and Unit Commanders at the Nigerian NAF headquarters in Abuja.

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) remains loyal to the democratically-elected government. We will not tolerate indiscipline or unlawful conduct within our ranks,” he warned.

In January, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed an attempted coup by a group of officers targeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Investigations have implicated 16 officers, who are now scheduled to face a court-martial.

In a statement on its official X handle, Aneke condemned any attempt to undermine democratic order, warning that the leadership of the service would not tolerate indiscipline among its personnel.

He reaffirmed the Service’s loyalty to the Constitution.

The CAS urged senior commanders to pursue operational excellence with unity, discipline, and strategic clarity as the service advances into a new phase of leadership.

He described his engagement with the senior officers as “a vital platform for reflection,” following his first 100 days in office.

Aneke recalled that during his recent operational visits across commands, he discovered the sacrifices and dedication of personnel.

The CAS said the prevailing situation demanded renewed focus and collective resolve.

“Together, we will continue to build a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower effects in synergy with surface forces,” he said.

Aneke emphasised that the global and regional security environment remained volatile, with instability in the Sahel, the spread of extremist violence, and shifting geopolitical alignments directly affecting Nigeria’s defence posture.

The CAS said there were security improvements in some regions, stressing that insurgency, banditry, and emerging extremist threats demand sustained pressure and an adaptive strategy.

He reminded NAF’s commanders that with elections approaching, the service must uphold absolute professionalism and maintain political neutrality.
