Ekiti: Season Of Lies And Half-Truths By Segun Dipe

0

As Ekiti State gears up for another season of political campaigns, the air is thick with promises, counter-promises, and a barrage of half-truths. It’s that time of the year when politicians and aspirants will stop at nothing to win the hearts and minds of the electorate.

Expect a deluge of lies, misinformation, and character assassinations as aspirants jostle for position. Some will falsely claim to be the anointed candidate of their party, while others will peddle untruths about their rivals. The names of prominent leaders, including the governor, will be dragged into the mud as aspirants seek to gain an unfair advantage.

The usual suspects will be trotted out, regaling voters with tales of projects they never executed, qualifications they don’t possess, and identities they haven’t earned. Social media will be awash with bought followers and manufactured support, making it difficult to separate fact from fiction.

In this season of deceit, it’s crucial to be vigilant. Don’t take everything at face value. Verify claims, fact-check statements, and be wary of those who seek to divide and conquer. Ekiti people deserve better than a diet of lies and half-truths.

Let’s call out the liars, reject fake narratives, and demand accountability. Our state deserves honest leaders, not charlatans and peddlers of false hope.

So, as we navigate this season of lies and half-truths, let’s also remind ourselves of the qualities Ekiti deserves in its leaders. We need individuals with integrity, vision, and a track record of service. People who understand our challenges, empathize with our struggles, and have a plan to uplift our community.

Let’s look out for leaders who are transparent and accountable, have a proven record of delivering projects and results, are committed to inclusivity and fairness, can inspire and unite, rather than divide and conquer, have a clear vision for Ekiti’s future.

Let’s therefore demand more from our aspirants and prioritize substance over empty promises. Ekiti deserves leaders who’ll move us forward, not hold us back. The truth will set us free, but first, we must seek it.
