The Oyo State House of Assembly, Tuesday, approved the extension of tenure of Caretaker Committee Chairmen in the 33 local government areas and 35 local council development areas in the state for two months.
Addressing journalists at the Caucus Room, House of Assembly Complex, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Abdulwasi Musah, said the extension took effect from March 5, 2018.
Hon. Musah who read a letter from Governor Abiola Ajimobi conveying the message said all lawmakers unanimously supported the extension after deliberations.
According to the Deputy Speaker, “the Parliamentary Caucus under the leadership of Hon. Segun Ajanaku sat to deliberate on the letter. After deliberations, the lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North state constituency, Hon. Solomon Akande, urged the House to grant the extension.
“This was seconded by the lawmaker representing Ibadan North II state constituency, Hon. Segun Olaleye. The House had on December 7, 2017 granted similar extension.”
The Deputy Speaker who pointed out that the extension would end by May 4, 2018 said it would be the last as the council election is slated for 12th May, 2018.
He reiterated the House’s support for the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) in the forthcoming council poll.
