The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, on Monday secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Ekiti Central Senatorial District through affirmation conducted across the 55 wards in the district.

The affirmation exercise, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, took place simultaneously in the five local government areas of the district, with party members endorsing Bamidele through voice votes as the sole aspirant for the ticket.

Bamidele, who emerged as the sole aspirant for the ticket, will be seeking a third consecutive term in the Senate.

Speaking after the exercise, the Senate Leader attributed his unopposed affirmation to God’s grace and his stewardship in the Senate, which he said had positively impacted the people of Ekiti Central.

He said, “I want everyone to know that I’m not taking this for granted. This is not the first time this is happening. It also happened in 2023 when I sought re-election for a second term in the Senate.

“I believe it is partly because of the grace God has given me to truly serve the people. My time in the Senate has added a lot of value to Ekiti Central.”

Bamidele listed several projects facilitated across the district, including the construction of 11 mini stadia to boost youth development, five intensive care units, classrooms in schools, distribution of over 100 transformers and installation of more than 6,000 solar-powered streetlights.

The lawmaker also appealed to aspirants who lost out in the APC primaries not to regard themselves as failures, stressing that political contests do not always produce losers.

“Every contest is meant to be won and lost, but it is not every contest that produces a loser. It could just be that it is not your time or that circumstances and geopolitical considerations do not support your aspiration at the moment,” he said.

He urged the APC leadership to ensure transparent and credible primaries while encouraging aggrieved aspirants to remain committed to the party, expressing confidence that their time would come.
