The Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OYMASED) has called on residents to actively support security efforts by promptly reporting any suspicious activity in their communities.
The Agency emphasized that public cooperation is essential to preventing further incidents.
This appeal follows the recent attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where pupils and teachers were abducted in Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota.
A statement released by the Director General of the Agency, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas said the abductions underscore the urgent need for community vigilance.
He noted that while security agencies are intensifying tactical operations to rescue the victims, citizens must also play their part by identifying and reporting criminal hideouts.
Dr. Thomas commiserated with the families of the teachers who lost their lives in the attack.
He also prayed for the safe and speedy release of those still being held captive, stating that the state Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde is doing everything necessary to secure their freedom.
He further urged parents and guardians to be more security conscious regarding their children.
According to security reports, kidnappers used deception to gain access, often posing as neighbours or claiming to have a close relationship with the people in their communities and in some cases, the perpetrators also impersonates security operatives to avoid suspicion.
Dr. Thomas said these tactics were highlighted in recent security briefings and require the public to be extra cautious.
OYMASED DG also urged all residents to remain alert and report anything unusual to the nearest security agency immediately.
He stressed that vigilance and quick reporting remain the most effective tools against such criminal acts.
