Global Afrobeats star, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido, turned his FIFA World Cup countdown concert performance on Wednesday into a call for action over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire LGA, Oyo State.
The singer appeared in a customised black leather jacket covered with green circular buttons bearing the victims’ names.
Names of those still in captivity were written in white, while names of those who died were written in red.
The back of the jacket carried the words ‘Bring Them Home’ in bold print, and he paired it with a white t-shirt that had Nigeria written across the chest.
Before his set, Davido spoke backstage about the crisis, expressing grief over the situation and called for faster intervention from the federal and state governments, and asked for prayers for the families of the abducted and those killed.
He noted that the victims had not been rescued and said the country was going through a difficult period.
“Peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed.
“They still haven’t been rescued, we’re praying to God every day. We’re also praying to God that the government hastens, and you know… My country is going through a lot. We represent everywhere we go”, Davido said.
The countdown concert is a major event ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
The Nation reports that Davido was a headlining performer, underscoring his role as a cultural ambassador for African music on the global sports stage.
Davido is also featured on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup soundtrack album alongside Burna Boy, Rema, and Ayra Starr.
