The National Sports Commission (NSC), in partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has constituted a seven-member Welfare Committee to ensure the well-being of the Super Falcons during their title defense at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The seven-member committee will be chaired by NFF Executive Board member Aisha Falode, with Ruth David serving as secretary.

Other members of the committee are Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen, Babagana Kalli, Emeka Iyama, Aderonke Tinuoye, and Tobechukwu Oluchi.

Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade said the federal government is committed to ensuring the Super Falcons enjoy a hitch-free campaign at the tournament, free from any form of financial disputes or distractions.

“Mr. President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, is both personally committed to seeing that the Falcons successfully defend their title in Morocco, which is why this ad hoc committee was put in place to further assist the NFF to ensure a seamless campaign for the team,” declared Olopade.

“Welfare is an unnegotiable key part of any team’s competition success, and with this committee, the players can rest assured that the NSC and NFF are taking their welfare very seriously for the WAFCON,” he added.

The General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, described the establishment of the committee as another landmark achievement resulting from the collaboration between the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the NFF.

According to Sanusi, it marks the first time a dedicated welfare committee has been constituted for the Super Falcons ahead of a major international tournament, underscoring the commitment of both bodies to prioritizing the team’s welfare and ensuring a successful title defense in Morocco.

“For us at the NFF, this shows the level of commitment the NSC is putting on women’s football, and it will only make the women’s game continue to grow rapidly in the country,” Sanusi stated.

“We believe this committee is not going to the WAFCON to take the responsibilities of anybody but to make sure we have a seamless campaign for the tournament.”

The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C, where they will face debutants Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt.

Justine Madugu’s side will begin their campaign against Malawi on Tuesday, 28 July, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.

The WAFCON 2026 tournament will be hosted by Morocco from 26 July to 16 August.
