Waka Music Queen, Salawa Abeni has been talking about how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rescued her during one of the darkest periods of her life.

The singer shared the story during her 50-year stage celebration, recalling how illness, grief and financial hardship left her incapacitated.

According to Salawa, her health challenges began after the loss of her child and worsened to the point that she could barely walk and could not work for some time.

As her health deteriorated and little help was available, the singer said she decided to seek assistance from Tinubu, then a prominent  political figure in Lagos State.

She recalled visiting his residence on Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, where he asked her to sit while he waited.

When Tinubu eventually appeared, he initially struggled to recognise her because her illness had significantly altered her appearance.

After seeing her condition, Tinubu immediately contacted Babatunde Raji Fashola, then Governor of Lagos State, and asked him to arrange a flight to Dubai for her the following week for medical treatment. BuyMaps

Salawa noted that she later travelled to Dubai for treatment, courtesy of the Lagos State Government, which helped her recover and return to the stage.

Abeni also thanked Lagos transport union chieftain, MC Oluomo for standing by her through tough times.

how MC Oluomo came through for her while she lived in Magodo, Lagos, particularly during periods when she had no shows and struggled financially.

According to her, the union leader never turned her down whenever she contacted him for help.

She publicly eulogised him during her performance, thanking him for attending the event and for his consistent support over the years.

Her account adds to a growing list of testimonies from entertainers about President Bola Tinubu’s generosity.

Nollywood veteran, Yinka Quadri earlier said Tinubu contributed $25,000 to facilitate the return of late actress Moji Olaiya’s remains from abroad, after colleagues initially requested $15,000 for the process.
