Actor Yul Edochie has once again waded into the debate on polygamy, insisting that having multiple wives is not a sin.
The controversial actor, who has been vocal about his support for polygamy since taking a second wife in 2022, made the assertion in a post shared on his official X handle on Tuesday.
In the post, Edochie argued that polygamy has Biblical backing, noting that many great men in the Bible had multiple wives and God never condemned them for it.
“POLYGAMY IS NOT A SIN. Even in the bible, many great men there had many wives and God never had issues with them. He was even willing to give them more,” he wrote.
He further claimed that many men in contemporary times are destined to be polygamists but suppress their true nature out of fear of societal judgment.
“Today, many men are destined to have many wives but because they don’t know who they are and scared of what society will say they end up having just one and life doesn’t seem to be working for them,” Edochie added.
The actor’s post has generated mixed reactions online, with many users criticising him while his supporters agreed with his position.
Edochie has been at the centre of public controversy since April 2022 when he announced that he had married fellow actress Judy Austin as his second wife, a move that led to the breakdown of his first marriage to May Edochie.
This comes after a US-based pastor, Israel Ford of LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, announced on Sunday, October 25, that he had married a second wife.
Ford, who introduced Minister Shakayla Ford as his second wife during a church service alongside his first wife, Prophetess Lydia Ford, said monogamy as the only acceptable form of marriage is unbiblical.
“As a nation we have been taught that a man should have one wife only. This is unbiblical,” Ford wrote on Facebook.
