The Oyo State House of Assembly has inaugurated an Ad-Hoc Committee that will investigate incessant violence that rocked Idi-Arere and the adjoining neighborhoods in Ibadan.
The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, while passing the resolutions of the House, mentioned the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi as the Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee.
The House resolved that the committee should pay on-the-spot assessment to the areas involved to ascertain the level of damage recorded as a result of the violence.
Hon. Yusuf Adebisi, who represents Ibadan South West state constituency 1, explained that the issue of gang violence has become a prevailing one, where properties and lives of the people in areas such as Foko, Popo Yemoja, Isale Osi, Born Photo, Isale Asaka and some other areas were lost.
Hon. Adebisi further disclosed that despite the fact that the Olubadan of Ibadan land’s palace is situated within the constituency and for the fact that the constituency has become a den for hoodlums, the authority is yet to find it worthy to situate a police post or police station in the area.
In his prayers to the House, Hon. Adebisi urged the executive arms of government to deploy security personnel/patrol vehicles to the Idi-Arere and other flash points to prevent violence.
He also implored the community and religious leaders including youth and women associations to cooperate with security operatives by forwarding useful information.
The House Minority Leader, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape who represents Atiba state constituency and Hon. Oluwafemi Fowokanmi, who represents Ibadan South West state constituency 2, emphasized that if the issue of incessant gang violence is to be addressed in the constituency, it is imperative to build a police station within the constituency.
Other legislators who made the committee list are Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape, Hon. Ayotunde Fatokun, Hon. Mobaje Rasak, Hon. Adeola Bamidele, Hon. Adeola Bamidele and Hon. Wunmi Oladeji.
In the same vein, the Speaker, Hon. Ogundoyin has directed the Ministry of Work and Transport to forward details of ongoing road projects across the state to the House for necessary actions within two weeks.
In a motion presented by Hon. Akeem Mustapha, representing Kajola state constituency on “A Passionate Appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde to Put Necessary Measures in Place to Mobilize Contractors Handling the Rehabilitation of Road Projects Across the State to Fast Track their Completions.”
He pointed out the Moniya-Iseyin-Ojutaye road project as an example, awarded by former Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration to a company identified as Oladiran Engineering Trade Limited in February 2018 with contract duration of eighteen (18) months.
Hon. Mustapha disclosed that the 65km road project, which was awarded at the cost of six billion nine hundred and fifty-two million (#6,952,000,000) is far from being completed as the contractor has vacated the site since two months ago, worsening the situation of the road due to uncompleted drainages and scraping of existing asphalt by heavy rainfall.
Hon. Ogundoyin, while passing the resolution, called on the Ministry of Works and Transport to present situation report on all ongoing road projects in the state in order to allow the House to know where to advise the present administration and expedite action on their completion.
