Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn has announced that he is talking with Robert Arum to organise a mega unification fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury at the end of the year, but did reveal Joshua could fight Deontay Wilder instead.
Hearn, who is the managing director of Matchroom Sport and Joshua’s promoter insists that while it’s important AJ keeps his focus on his next opponent, Kubrat Pulev on June 20 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, plans will be set for the all-British fight assuming both men win in the summer.
Fury, who is managed by Arum, is set to take on Wilder for a third time in July and Hearn also admitted plans are being made for Joshua to fight Wilder in November or December if the Bronze Bomber wins the trilogy fight.
‘The conversations I’ve had with Bob Arum in the last 48 hours have been pretty good in the sense of doing a deal between the winner of these next two fights to take place in November/December,’ Hearn told William Hill.
‘We’re willing to do that deal with Wilder just in case he beats Fury in a rematch too.
‘We can’t afford to take our eyes off the ball from AJ’s side with Pulev. Bob Arum is convinced Pulev will knock AJ out.
‘People look at the Andy Ruiz fight and they think there’s a weak link there in AJ. I think he’s going to show you something very different this year. He’s ready to put on a real performance at Spurs on June 20.’
Wilder opted to enforce the rematch option for a trilogy fight despite the first loss of his career last month against Fury in Las Vegas.
