It was nostalgia all the way on Monday, April 3, 2017 when Lagelu Grammar School’s 1982 set of the Old Boys’ Association donated 170 pieces of stools for use by the current and future students in its laboratories.
The old boys were led back to their alma mater by Professor Ayobami Salami, the School’s Liaison Chairman of the set. Others on the entourage included Sunday Amoo, the Chairman of the set, Dr Kamorudeen Ogunsesan, the National Vice President of LAGSOBA, Bolanle Adeyemi, the set’s Chief Whip, Oladipo Fagbamila, the Secretary, Olayinka Agboola, the Publicity Secretary, Engineer Kola Amole, the Social Secretary and others.
In his speech shortly before handing over the 170 pieces of stools, for use in the school’s laboratories, Professor Ayobami Salami who is one of those seriously eye the Vice Chancellor’s seat at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife said the 1977-1982 set carried out its research and found out that the current students of the school urgently needed the stools, hence, the decision to embark on the project which cost almost a million naira.
Continued the Professor “We are very positive that the stools will assist the current and future students of the school. For us, encouraging our sons in the school to embrace science subjects is a priority. If they are comfortable in the laboratories as they study Physics, Chemistry and Biology, our alma mater will produce more Medical/Veterinary Doctors, Engineers, and other scientists.”
While responding, the Principal of the school, Mr Tope Onipede thanked the 1982 set for the gesture.
He went on to generally acknowledge the fact that Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys’ Association (LAGSOBA) has been generally conscious of performing its ‘social responsibility’ towards the school.
His words “I am proud of you guys at LAGSOBA. You have all continued to make your school to be proud of you. Buildings of the school are being constantly renovated by different sets, our electricity supply challenge is being attended to by old boys and now, stools for our laboratories. Thank you so much. We still expect more though. We pray God to continue to provide for you all”.
The 82 set members were later taken round the school where final year students were seen in laboratories writing final exams while standing because of inadequate laboratory stools.
