Two nominees for Caretaker chairmanship positions, Hon. Adeleke Taiwo and Muda Agbaje were on Thursday rejected by the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The two politicians were among the 57 nominees earlier sent by the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to the House for approval. They were nominated for Asabari Local Council Development Area and Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State.
They were found un-appointable by the committee that screened all the 57 names sent to the House of Assembly for approval.
The committee, however, cleared 55 other nominees for the positions of chairmen of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the list forwarded by the executive arm of government.
The Chairman House committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon.Bolaji Badmos while presenting the report urged the Executive arm to forward the names of two other people to replace Hon Taiwo Adeleke of Asabari LCDA and Mudasiru Agbaje for Irepo Local government area.
The recommendations, according to the report read by Hon. Bolaji Badmos, are; the committee recommended that the Executive arm is urged to be gender compliant pursuant to section 11 of the Local Government Law 2001 (as amended);
“a total of 57 nominees were screened and 55 were found appointable; while two who did not meet the requirements were stepped down;”
“the executive arm is hereby urged to forward replacement for the two nominees to the House for necessary screening”;
“the committee therefore recommends that the appointment of 55 nominees found appointable should be confirmed by the House.”
Commenting on the report shortly after it was submitted, the lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North state constituency, Hon. Wunmi Oladeji called the attention of the House to the issue of gender imbalance in the appointment of Council chairmen.
According to Hon. Oladeji, who is the Chairman, House committee on Women Affairs    ‘in this House, we have two female lawmakers and we are doing well. Also at the Executive arm, we have two female commissioners and they have never been found wanting in the discharge of their duties. Therefore, I want to urge the Executive to ensure that females are included in the subsequent appointments.”
Similarly, Hon Bolanle Agbaje who represents Ibadan North State constituency 1 aligned herself with the submission of Hon. Wunmi Oladeji and called on the Executive arm to also be gender sensitive in its appointments to various positions.
Responding, the Speaker of the House Hon Michael Adeyemo promised that the message would be conveyed to the Executive arm for necessary action.
Also, the House during its plenary today hosted Asegun Comprehensive High school football team, winner of Etisalat football competition.
Their appearance before the House was sequel to the resolution of the House on Thursday 23rd March, 2017 inviting the Football team of Asegun Comprehensive High School , Asolo, Ona Ara local government to appear before the House together with their Proprietor, the Principal and Game Master with a view to commending them for their outstanding performance in the game of football and for winning the 2016 Etisalat Secondary School competition.
In their remarks, the Speaker Hon Michael Adeyemo and Chairman House committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Fatai Adesina said the team has been doing the state proud and needed to be honoured and given due recognition by the Oyo State government.
